| CLEANING MANAGEMENT |
| The Specialist Approach |
 |
|
Introduction
We use a specialist approach, which is an expanded version of "team cleaning". The system develops cleaners who concentrate on doing a few tasks well. The term "expanded" is used because we have developed and implemented checking techniques in our system that assure restrooms are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, trashed is not missed, and vacuuming is thorough and regular.
The Four Functions of Cleaning Team
Workers become specialists by mastering different
cleaning functions. The four functions of the team and their
respective responsibilities are as follows:
| function |
|
Responsibility |
| Light Duty
Function |
|
Empties trash, dusts, cleans horizontal and vertical surfaces, and
cleans carpet spots.
|
| Vacuum
Function |
|
Vacuums, checks the trash, turns off the lights, and secures the area.
|
| Restroom
Function |
|
Fills dispensers, empties trash, cleans and disinfects fixtures, floors and drinking fountains.
|
| Utility
Function |
|
Hauls trash to dumpster, cleans brass, cleans blinds and elevators, and handles other specialty services.
|
Each team function has a flow chart that describes
what tasks they are to perform and the order in which to perform
them. Each individual worker's job assignment is clearly stated
on a job card. It also notes special assignments they have
while they are cleaning.
Color coded flow charts, job cards, chemicals, secondary labels, and material safety data sheets help simplify communications for the worker. Chemical mixing is also simplified through the use of pre-measured PortionPac chemicals.
